Exploring the Terrace area one adventure at a time

Discover the WOW of Terrace through the eyes of our Tourism Terrace summer students. The Epic Tales blog highlights hidden gems, extraordinary experiences and the real-life adventures of our summer students exploring the Skeena Valley.

Summer Adventures

June was a busy month for us summer students at the Visitor Center. Between attending festivals and Canada Day celebrations, familiarization tours at local businesses, and getting out into the community, the summer is off to a great start.

Kitselas Canyon

For our familiarization tour, we started off the day touring Kitselas Canyon where we followed a trail through the forest to a viewpoint overlooking the canyon. It is a beautiful site with a rich history, and the staff were super friendly and helpful.

Kasiks Wilderness Resort

Later that afternoon, we drove out to Kasiks Wilderness Resort and campground for lunch and a tour. The food there was fantastic. Several of us ordered the Kasiks Smash bison burger, grilled to perfection with a side of the best fries I’ve had in a long time. As we ate, we watched five hummingbirds buzz around the feeders they have set up right outside the windows. After lunch we took a tour of the property and enjoyed gorgeous views of the trees and surrounding mountains.

Exchamsiks River

On the drive back from Kasiks, we stopped at the Exchamsiks River day use area and walked down a short trail through the old growth forest to get a view of the river. The river had some of the bluest water I’ve seen in the north. I don’t have a boat, but after seeing this area I understand the appeal of having one. It’s now on my bucket list to book a jet boat tour one day and explore more of this gorgeous Provincial Park.

ValhallaFest

A highlight of June was attending ValhallaFest, a music festival set in an ancient forest just a few minutes from Terrace. The venue for Valhalla is lovely, with viewpoints overlooking the river and fairy lights strung up in the trees. We were set up with our Visit Terrace tent in the marketplace, surrounded by fellow vendors and food trucks. I visited a few of the other vendors including the Sizzling Sasquatch for a burger and Bulkley River Booch for some delicious haskap berry kombucha. We also got the chance to hear some of the artists at the main stage – the atmosphere of the music and lights made it a very cool vibe.

Canada Day at Heritage Park

Right after Valhalla was the Canada Day celebrations at Heritage Park. Our Visit Terrace tent hosted hoola hoops, freezies, and bubbles for kids. We also got a visit from our mascot, Terra the Kermode bear! It was a very lively, family friendly event for the community of Terrace.

June certainly kept us busy, it was a month full of fun and adventure. From all my years in Terrace I’ve started to learn there is always something new to discover, and always another adventure on the horizon.
